Being in therapy

Psychology and
R/Expatriation

Moving to a new place can be an exciting experience, but it can also be quite daunting at times. Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety, depression, excessive worry, or feelings of loneliness and isolation? Do life transitions and identity crises weigh heavily on you, particularly within the context of expatriation or repatriation? Welcome to Being in Therapy. Being in Therapy understands the overseas experience because we specialize in helping people like you who are living and working in a foreign country.

My name is Dr. Catherine Cadart, I am a counseling psychologist with a focus on mental health challenges associated with moving and living abroad. I have been living in different countries myself for over 20 years and I chose this career because I understand firsthand the shame and lack of joy that can arise when our experiences don’t align with societal expectations while living abroad. I know how difficult it can be to find the help you need. I understand the toll it can take on your happiness. The challenges faced can be complex and misunderstood by people who haven’t lived abroad.

At Being in Therapy we are committed to providing high quality support for you. Evidence-based psychological therapies are available to help you regain control over your life and positively shape your experience abroad or ease your transition back home. If would you like to talk to someone who understand what you are going through? Please reach out and allow us to support you in becoming the expat or repat you aspire to be.

During the 8 months of psychotherapy with Catherine, I experienced one of the most transformative periods of my life. Catherine guided me through unravelling the events of my past that continue to shape my present personality. Despite our sessions being remote, she fostered a trustful, safe, and supportive environment where I could fully open up and analyse the triggers of my anxiety and self-destructive tendencies. Catherine equipped me with invaluable tools to navigate future challenges. Her professionalism and depth of knowledge in psychology and adeptness in discussing a wide range of psychological topics are truly exceptional. While our therapy has concluded, I feel significantly more grounded and stable. I will sincerely miss our insightful conversations during our sessions.

I wasn't sure what to expect from therapy, but my sessions have been extremely beneficial. Dr. Cadart made me feel at ease discussing any topic, and being able to express challenging emotions was a significant relief, especially after relocating to an unfamiliar place. We identified and tackled detrimental thought patterns, and established techniques to handle them, which I now feel self-assured in using on my own. Her patience, compassion, and guidance have enabled me to make enduring positive changes. I wholeheartedly recommend her and am thankful to have her support for any future needs. Thank you!

After a period of intense anxiety that left me feeling exhausted and down, I reluctantly decided to seek help. Dr. Cadart was reassuring and supportive from our very first session. We discussed treatment options thoroughly, without any pressure to choose a specific path. Within a few weeks, I started feeling much better and was able to return to the activities I once loved.
